Film Kitchen – Melwood Screening Room
The latest Film Kitchen at Melwood Screening Room will feature a Greatest Hits lineup of 15 locally-made short films and videos from the past few years. The event begins with a reception at 7 p.m. followed by the films at 8 p.m. Admission is $5.
Pulp Fiction – AMC Loews Waterfront
AMC Loews Waterfront will screen the 1994 film Pulp Fiction as part of their Tarantino in July series. Regarded as one of the decade’s most memorable, most quotable, most influential movies, the Oscar winner revolves around the intertwining narratives involving two philosophizing hitmen (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson), a corrupt boxer (Bruce Willis), and a gangster and his wife (Ving Rhames and Uma Thurman). The film will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5, $10.50 for VIP Seating.
STEM on Screen: Pacific Rim – Hollywood Theater
Hollywood Theater will open to the public the latest event in their STEM on Screen series, a program for area school children that combines cinema with STEM education. The featured film is Pacific Rim, a 2013 monster movie that pits giant, man-made robots against giant, destructive creatures known as kaiju. A special guest speaker will present a pre-screening talk on CGI and special effects. STEM on Screen: Pacific Rim begins at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
Meditation and a Movie: Gurukulam – Hollywood Theater
Hollywood Theater will combine yoga and film for Meditation and a Movie. The event will feature the documentary Gurukulam, which follows a group of students and their teacher as they confront fundamental questions about the nature of reality and self-identity at a remote forest ashram in southern India. Guests can participate in a Restorative Yoga/Meditation Class from 9:45 a.m.to 11 a.m. at nearby Sterling Yoga. Also included are chair massages, Life Eye Readings and a free 15-minute Guided Meditation session at the Hollywood. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. followed by the guided meditation a 12:30p.m. and the film at 1 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at Showclix. Gurukulam will also screen on July 15th and July 21st.
The Untouchables – Regent Square Theater
Regent Square Theater returns to the days of Prohibition with The Untouchables. Directed by Brian De Palma, the stylish 1987 gangster film depicts the violent clash between G-men (Kevin Costner and Sean Connery) and crime boss Al Capone (Robert De Niro) in 1930 Chicago. The screening begins at 8 p.m.
