Rooftop Shindig Heads Outside For Summer Film Series

Last year, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership attracted Pee-wee Herman fans with Rooftop Shindig, an outdoor screening event featuring live music, delicious food, and handcrafted drinks. On June 3rd, Rooftop Shindig returns with more films and fun. See schedule and details below:

June 3rd

Young Frankenstein

The first Rooftop Shindig event will feature the classic 1974 film from director Mel Brooks. His madcap take on a beloved movie monster boasts a distinguished cast of comedy greats, including Gene Wilder, Teri Garr, Peter Boyle, and Madeline Kahn. Guests can also enjoy music from the Beauty Slap and JD Eicher & the Goodnights.

July 1st

Jaws

Join Rooftop Shindig as they screen director Steven Spielberg‘s iconic summer blockbuster. The 1975 film pits a small town police chief (Roy Scheider), a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss), and a salty boat captain (Robert Shaw) against a man-eating shark off the coast of Amity Island. Guests can also enjoy live music by Nevada Color and The Flow Band.

August 26th

The Warriors

Come out and play for this screening of director Walter Hill‘s colorful 1979 cult classic. When The Warriors are blamed for the assassination of a respected New York gang leader, the Coney Island toughs must battle their way home as every gang in the city tries to take them down. Guests can also enjoy live music by Bastard Bearded Irishmen.

September 9th

Zoolander

Rooftop Shindig concludes their movie schedule with Ben Stiller‘s 2001 comedy. Stiller stars as a vapid male model whose glamorous world is turned upside down by a successful rival (Owen Wilson) and an evil fashion designer (Will Ferrell). The evening will also feature live music by Balloon Ride Fantasy.

All Rooftop Shindig events begin at 6 p.m. on the top level of the Theater Square Garage. Music performances take place at 7 p.m. followed by films at sundown. Guests are welcome to bring a chair or buy a folding seat. No outside food or beverages are permitted. All events are free and open to the public.
