[Podcast] Steel City Secret Cinema Gets Animated

Since its founding in 2012, Steel City Secret Cinema has hosted four R-rated screenings – Slap Shot, Caddyshack, Wristcutters: A Love Story, and Day of the Dead – but on Oct. 17th, the fundraising event will present Toon Time, its first kid-friendly film. The all-ages show, which will take place at the Hollywood Theater, will feature an animated film-themed art gallery with work from 14 local artists, including Seth Storck, Dave Slebodnick, Genevieve Barbee, and Rich Kelly, who commemorated the occasion with an original, limited edition screen-printed poster. Guests can also enjoy raffle drawings, music by DJ Zombo, free food and locally brewed beer, and face painting.

Founder Colin Matthews sat down with Steel Cinema to discuss Toon Time, the challenges of organizing a charity event, and the future of Steel City Secret Cinema.

Steel City Secret Cinema begins at 7 p.m. Film screens at 9 p.m. followed by the poster reveal. Tickets begin at $20 and are available for purchase at Showclix. All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation and the Hollywood Theater.
