In 2010, Pittsburgh artist Matt Buchholz began creating amusing works that combined archival images and monsters. Entitled Alternate Histories, the series, which depicts famous cities and events being invaded by the likes of Godzilla, aliens, robots, and many others, has since become a popular venture that includes original prints, greeting cards, posters, clothing, and a book. After years of unleashing giant beasts and metal men on the American landscape, Buchholz is ready to embark on a project dedicated to some of the worst, most beloved sci-fi films ever made.
A Kickstarter for Alternate Histories Classics of Filmdom was recently launched to offer yet another fun novelty for movie and literature fans alike. Inspired by classic Shakespeare folios, the collection will offer stylish, compact books containing the screenplays to some of cinema’s notable failures, including Plan 9 From Outer Space, Manos the Hands of Fate, and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.
Before he can do anything, however, Buchholz needs to raise the necessary funds to produce the items through Scout Books, a respected independent company that specializes in pocket notebooks. Contributors can receive a number of perks, including limited-edition prints and copies of each script. The Kickstarter campaign will run through July 3rd.
