On March 8th, Women in Film and Media (WIFM) will serve up an evening of independent film and delicious drinks for their annual Movies and Martinis event. This year, the organization will celebrate International Women’s Day with a selection of locally produced International Short Films compiled by the Women In Film and Television International Board of Directors.
Featured screenings include the dark comedy Dog Bytes by Melissa Martin, Adrienne Wehr, Amy Hartman and Tammy Tsai. The film takes place in America’s Heartland where Alice arrives to cook an unforgettable breakfast for Daddy and his wife. Daddy likes his eggs with tomatoes, lots of hot sauce and no shells so Alice makes them just the way he likes them – or not.
Also showing is Kirsi Jansa’s documentary Gas Rush Stories, which made it to the semi-final spot for the International Showcase. Her series of short documentaries on shale gas drilling is a public forum designed to increase awareness of the diverse impacts of gas drilling, and to promote cooperative and constructive dialogue.
Movies and Martinis will take place at the 11 Stanwix Street Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. Food and drink will be provided. Tickets are $10 for members, $15 for non-members and $20 at the door. Guests can register here.
