Summer is officially here, and one retailer is ringing in the season with a special move-related event. This month, Macy’s helps Pittsburgh celebrate the 80th anniversary of one of America’s most beloved pastimes with the Great American Drive-In.
As part of their American Icons campaign, Macy’s will pay homage to this time-honored tradition with a free showing of The Smurfs in a pop-up drive-in at their Ross Park Mall store location on June 29th. The hybrid live-action and animated family comedy follows the blue mushroom dwellers after they’re chased out of their village by the evil wizard Gargamel and forced through a portal, out of their world and into ours, landing in the middle of New York’s Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down. In addition to the feature presentation, Macy’s will also show a sneak peek of the upcoming sequel The Smurfs 2, in theaters July 31st.
Attendees are urged to come early for a free pre-show filled with family-friendly carnival activities, music, delicious treats, giveaways and more. Plus, shop the Macy’s kids’ department that day, and with any purchase of $40 or more in children’s apparel, customers will receive a Macy’s Drive-In lawn chair souvenir to watch The Smurfs in style.
The Ross Park Mall Macy’s Drive-In event begins at 6 p.m. Admission and activities are free and open to the public. Space is limited and entry will close once capacity is reached. Event subject to change or cancellation – for rain date info, call 1-888-622-9769 or log onto macys.com/events.
