In 2003, the DVD rental store Dreaming Ant opened its doors for business. Nestled in the back corner of the Bloomfield Crazy Mocha, it weathered the changing consumer climate that destroyed chains like Blockbuster by offering a large selection of hard-to-find titles in a cozy atmosphere. After a decade of serving discerning film buffs, however, the little movie trove has decided to close for good. But before the end credits roll on May 31st, come bid them adieu at the Dreaming Ant DVDs 10-Year ANT-iversary & Farewell Party.
On April 13th, Dreaming Ant will close early to host the event at Artisan: Tattoo, Coffee, Gallery. Guests are encouraged to participate in the festivities by submitting a video, picture, or story describing their favorite Dreaming Ant memories, or by dressing as a favorite movie character for a chance to win a prize. Those attending can enjoy DVD screenings, and enter raffles for prizes such as movie tickets, original artwork, and gift certificates to local businesses. Refreshments including pizza, beer, coffee, and kombucha will also be on hand.
The party begins at 9 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
