On Feb. 23rd, the Hollywood Theater will host GRRRINDHAHS!!! Pittsburgh’s Exploitation Celebration, a day-long program of exploitation, drive-in, and grindhouse films from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The 13-hour event will feature nine movies from around the world, representing a wide variety of genres, from blaxploitation, biker dramas, and martial arts action to spaghetti westerns, slashers, and women-in-prison films.
Movies tentatively scheduled include:
11:30 a.m. – Savage! (aka Back Valor ) (1973, Philippines)
1 p.m. – Angels from Hell (1968, USA)
2:30 p.m. – Wolf-Devil Woman (Lang nu bai mo aka Wolfen Ninja) (1982, Taiwan)
4:15 p.m. – The Killing Machine (Shôrinji kenpô) (1976, Japan)
5:45 p.m. – Weapons of Death (Napoli spara!) (1977, Italy)
7:15 p.m. – Massacre Time (Le colt cantarono la morte e fu…tempo di massacre aka The Brute and the Beast) (1966, Italy)
9 p.m. – Pieces (Mil gritos tiene la noche) (1982, Spain)
10:30 p.m. – The Big Bust Out (Io monaca…per tre carogne e sette peccatrici) (1972, Italy/West Germany)
11:45 p.m. – Ilsa, the Tigress of Siberia (1977, Canada)
Update: 1 a.m. – Alpha Girls: A Sorority Horror Film (2012, USA)
In addition, vendors will be on hand in the theater’s lobby and lower level, selling a wide range of movie-related items such as DVDs, books, records, magazines, posters, T-shirts, and original works of art.
Doors open at 11:00 a.m., with the first feature beginning at 11:30 a.m. Admission to the event will be $15 for an all-day pass, or $5 for a single movie. All proceeds benefit the Hollywood Theater’s digital projection campaign.
